When I’m not in the mood for some Korean BBQ, the next best thing is Chicken Galbi. There’s two places in Koreatown that I know of that makes Chicken Galbi well. One’s on Vermont and 7th and the one I went to is located at:
Mapo Galbi
3090 W Olympic Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90006
I went to Mapo Galbi a few days ago with my buddy thefooddude (my food partner in crime). We ordered two orders of the Dak Galbi.
Here’s a step by step process of how they cook the Chicken Galbi.
First they bring out a bowl of chicken, rice cake, and sweet potato.
Then they bring out two bowls of assorted vegetables.
Next you cook the chicken, rice cakes, and sweet potato.
Then you add the cabbage.
Then you add the rest of the vegetables.
Here’s the final product.
TIP OF THE DAY: Remember to leave some of the sauce, chicken, and veggies. Explanation below.
The server will come by with rice, dried salted seaweed, sesame oil, red pepper sauce, and chopped kimchi. The server will add these items to your leftovers to make fried rice.
Two meals in one! I actually get more excited at this point in the meal.
I just drooled. lol
